Among the vast religious and architectonic heritage of Melgaço, it stands out the Igreja / Convento das Carvalhiças, also called Convento de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. This ancient convent, built attached to the church’s right side, is dated from the 18th century and belonged to the Província da Conceição. You’ll be able to observe that the building used to be an ancient convent, nowadays a private property related to agriculture.
Al least, you can visit the Franciscan convent church of Mannerist structure. Walk through the courtyard and enter the temple, where it stands out the rich rococo decoration, the interesting Mannerist main retable and, beside the epistle, the choir sustaining a Baroque pipe organ.
Take a rest on the courtyard and admire the quietness of the place before continuing your visit.
