The famed Convento de S.Paio, rebuilt at the end of the 20th century by the sculptor José Rodrigues, is nowadays one of the most important cultural centers of the municipality. You sure can’t leave Vila Nova de Cerveira without visiting this ancient Franciscan convent!
Wander through the surrounding area, from the church to the cloisters, and visit the exhibition rooms and the art gallery. Enjoy the unutterable beauty of the gardens, venture through the woods and try to discover the pleasant lagoon while you walk around.
Serving as residence and workshop of José Rodrigues, a promoter of local arts and one of the responsible for the current designation of “Cerveira, Vila das Artes", this magnificent building rises up on a hill, away from Cerveira's urban center. Surrounded by green hills and having the Minho River as background, here you’ll find a true refuge of peace and pulchritude.
The building also operates as an arts center, where you’ll find painting, sculpture and sacred art exhibitions. You can also attend to concerts, conferences and theatre plays - an endless list of cultural activities for all tastes!
