The territory that nowadays corresponds to the municipality of Paredes de Coura has been densely populated since early times, especially during the Iron Age. From these times, there are still many fortified thorps of great value. One of them is the Povoado de Romarigães, located at Coto do Ouro, overlooking the River Coura, at about 920 feet high.
Originally, this “castro” presented an oblong shape and a watch-turret and was protected by two lines of walls with two trenches and two slopes. Nowadays, these structures are not easily seen since they’re covered with vegetation.
However, the site deserves a visit even if it's not for the amazing views it offers over the whole region.
