Calçada dos Bicos is a remarkable example of rural mountain engineering. With seven sections, this slope is witness to countless promises of faith. To get to know it, try taking the Rota dos Bicos route, integrated into the network of "Pilgrims of Peneda” trails. The starting point is located in the Lombadinha, about 15 kilometres from the town of Arcos de Valdevez. The trail has a medium degree of difficulty and takes approximately seven hours. The trail connects the west slope of Serra do Soajo and two pilgrimage shrines: São Bento do Cando and the Nossa Senhora da Peneda shrine. Before beginning this crossing, some precautions need to be taken. For example, you should not leave from the path marked out. It is also very important to wear hiking boots and to take other basic precautions. Along the trails, be prepared to see the true Alto Minho and meet hikers from a variety of countries!
