Torre do Relógio

Castles and Fortresses

This tower was built in 1926 by order of Manuel José Lebrão, born at Sopo, to guide the life and, specifically, the watering time of the consorts. In spite of being severely damaged and hard-to-access, this ancient clock tower is still worth visiting for its superb views. Stop the car at the road’s end and climb about 1000 feet till you reach the stone wall around the tower – with a clock on each face and a weather vane on top. Sit on the wall and take advantage of the height to enjoy the views, with the mighty Minho River on the background.
