Castles and Fortresses
In the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, over the river Laboreiro, the Bridge of Cava da Velha is a bridge believed to be dated to the 1st century AD, in the Romanization period, having undergone a restoration in the medieval period. Flanked by a Roman pavement on both sides, it features an accentuated ramp over two differentiated round arches with regular staves. Classified as a National Monument, it amazes visitors by the harmonious combination of its robust construction with the bucolic landscape so characteristic of Peneda-Gerês, in a perfect symbiosis between the work of Man and Nature. Nearby you can find the Bridge of Assureira or Bridge of São Brás and also a magnificent natural pool with clear waters - if you are visiting in the summer, do not hesitate to take a dip!
