Núcleo Museológico do Centro Histórico de Caminha – Torre do Relógio

Cultural Spaces

The history of Caminha and its evolution to the present day is available to visitors in the Caminha Historical Centre Museum, located in the clock tower building, which now also houses the tourist office. As an integral part of the walls, built in the 12th century, the Clock tower is the only tower that exists in all it purity. Facing South, this tower was called the Viana gate, as it was the exit for Viana do Castelo. In 1673, a clock was placed at the top of the tower, which was to give it its name. It has been a national monument since 1951. The Museum is the best gateway to the historical centre of Caminha. It has an audiovisual room where it is possible to view multimedia content on the historical centre. In another room, there is a major exhibition of replicas of the main monuments in Caminha. From the top of the tower, you can enjoy a 360-degree view over the surrounding landscape of Caminha, the river Minho, the river Coura, La Guardia and the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. After the Museum it is time to start exploring the monuments scattered across the town: the Misericórdia Church, the parish church, the fountain, the walls. And, if you like nightlife, give yourself plenty of time! So that you can go for a stroll along the famous Rua Direita and share real moments of pleasure with your friends!
