Complexo Arqueológico do Mezio-Gião

Archaeological Sites

Walking along the paths of the Mezio-Gião Archaeological Complex is an opportunity to observe the unique prehistoric funeral monuments, such as dolmens and burial mounds. This area also contains some of the most important rock art on the Iberian Peninsula. It is exciting to see traces of communities that settled in this territory nearly 5,000 years ago. Before going into the field, visit the modern and well-prepared Interpretation Centre, located at Mezio gate. An important part of what is found in the archaeological excavations in the surrounding area is on display here. On this plateau of approximately two kilometres, there are around a dozen megalithic monuments, but one in particular stands out, Burial Mound number 6 where several objects in stone and ceramic material dating from the Neolithic period were found. The understanding of this valuable prehistoric heritage is facilitated through the use of informative panels, models and three-dimensional multimedia content. Once you have gathered all of the information, take a deep breath and follow the paths traversed by our ancestors thousands of years ago!
